I bought an AppleII/II+ to Atari joystick adapter on ebay just like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Atari-Apple-II-Joystick-Controller-Adapter-II-IIe_W0QQitemZ350030222937QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3 286.m20.l1116

After attaching it to my II+ motherboard, hooking up a joystick and loading Shamus, the character immediately headed to the lower right of the screen, nothing I did to the stick would make him go in any other direction. Did I get a bum adapter?

Hmmm. Is it possible that it's installed upside-down on the 16-pin DIN socket?

I thought about that but both the socket and the adapter are pretty clearly labeled.
