I got an Acer 1100, 386 IBM AT clone. with a Acer ATC90-05112176 hard drive.

The battery is dead and it's asking for the hard drive type.. Google has northing about the system or the hard drive.

Would you have happen to know anything about it? What size and type the HDD is?

Sometimes old hard drives have the details required by CMOS written in small letters on the case somewhere. Sometimes these are not obvious. There is nothing there?

I'm assuming there is no autodetect option on the motherboard?

I did not see anything, That looks like a drive type to me, and there is no autodetect, it's an early 386!

One thought....Do you have a later motherboard lying around which does autodetect? If so, you could plug it into that and get the specs?

It's not an IBM 5150, so no one here wants to hear about it...:sneaky:

What other markings are on the drive? What interface is it? IDE, ST-506, ST-412, ESDI, SCSI? How about a picture showing any markings?

Microwarehous put out an ide identify utility some time back, which I understand is freeware. It should tell you acceptable translation parameters even if what's in the cmos is garbage. I've attached it. Unzip, put on boot floppy, run mh-ide
Hope this helps.
