A telnet BBS that is just a door to a Lynx session. In other words, internet access through telnet. Or dialup. What ever.

There's few and far between but yeah that's doable. The catch is the liability factor if they do something stupid (illegal) from your server or proxy then you can be held accountable in some states. That generally makes it not worth the risk but yes it's been done. Several BBSes in the early days (the ones with a budget) started to offer some internet access but ran into the same misuse.

Maybe, but they were already getting hard to come by years ago. I last used Lynx over free Telnet in 2003 or so.

Anyway, the usability of Lynx has been greatly diminished by how graphical the Web has become. Even text-oriented sites such as web-based e-mail rely heavily on graphical icons and style sheets.
