I found this advert in a 1983 copy of "Computer Answers". This magazine was published in the UK

An Atari 800 with 48k RAM is more expensive than todays netbooks!

Yes, in Europe it seems Atari computers had a hard time keeping up in the price race vs the other brands. In particular compared to the closest competitor Commodore; when CBM slashed their prices to almost half, Atari instead increased their prices due to the high USD rate. At one point Atari resellers no longer advertised their prices, but rather printed "call for price".

Yeah, up until about 85 the Atari computers were much more expensive than their competitors machines. Of course this was due to the much higher quality computer you got for the money ;) :)

Atariís were expensive but as already mentioned you got quality for your money.

I only knew one person who had an Atari 400, everybody else at school had Species and C64's, me included.

Now you can pick one up cheaply so thereís no excuse not to try out all that 8-Bit Atari magic.:inlove:
