Hi Gang,

At the risk of beating this subject to death, I'd like to solicit members of this forum for lists of their favorite games which can be played on the Commodore computers. I hope that responses will come with the reason(s) why the listed games are so well liked.

I am not much of a gamer myself, but I was thinking about trying some out, if I can ever clear the space to actually use my C64. I have a helicopter simulation that looks promising, that I'd like to try.

Thanks all,
Sean

If you can get a few friends over, M.U.L.E. is one of the best multiplayer games for the C64.

Another favorite is Elite. You, your ship, your wits and an entire open universe to play in.

On the C64 the games I liked were:

AD&D Gold Boxed games by SSI
Ultima Series
Pirates!
Archon Chess
7 Cities of Gold

There were also some nice arcade ports and shooters.

Gauntlet is a must-have, that was one of my favorite games on the C64.

Quick list of random C64 favorites:

M.U.L.E.
Delta
IK+ (a.k.a. Chop'n'Drop in the USA)
The (Soccer) Boss
Nebulus (Tower Toppler)
Bruce Lee

.. well, many more but those were just off the top of my head and games you can enjoy single player mode on although several are more fun as multi player games.

If you want motivations what makes these games good, it'll have to wait until later.

My personal favorites:
Ghosts 'n Goblins - The best platformer ever! :) Hard as h*ll but really fun
Slap fight (Alcon in the US) - Nice space shooter!
Archon - A nice action variation on chess
Commando - A truly classic...
Bruce Lee - Not to good graphics, but great game play and action
Boulder Dash - You really have to think about what you do in this one.

I was just going add Paradroid, but One Man Band beat me to it...

Lords of Conquest
Raid on Bungling Bay (top down helicopter type game)
Druid
Archon I (and II)
Attack of the Mutant Camels
Zork (you can play this on almost any computer too)

...and Paradroid!

Hmmm...in no particular order :

Archon I and II
Space Taxi
Frogger II (one of the first carts I got for it, wasted a lot of time on that one)
War in Middle Earth (ok, a bit clunky but I loved the idea of it)
Destroyer
Omega Race (on the vic-20)
