Does this work ?

I have 2 standard Sega Master System gamepads without a master system to use them for. Do they work as a joystick on the C64 or will I fry something by trying to connect them to the C64 ?

Thanks

Maybe. The topic has been discussed in newsgroups and other forums for 10+ years. If you avoid pressing some of the buttons, I think you should be safe. See these links:

Personally I would be wary to use SMS gamepads, or even worse Megadrive/Genesis gamepads on my C64/Amiga etc. Perhaps on the MSX as it seems to have more signals in common with the Sega than what other Atari compatible joysticks have.

Hmmmmm, Okay. I guess I'll just buy 2 new joysticks for my C64. You see, the two I have is quite worn and they make some games a hassle to play.

Nick Copin, author of 64HDD, recently began producing an adapter that will let you use a variety of gamepads safely with your C64 or C128. The adapter is called the 64JPX, and you can find out more information about it here:
