Out of the blue, this surfaces at a second hand store. No cables, no nothing but the unit itself (which has a broken hinge (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a166/ballsandy/P1043617.jpg) which I need assistance repairing) and a TVI module.
A quick google search yielded...

Amiga CD32 Television Interactive
A rather unusual 3rd party device for use with American CD32s. The TVI provided the CD32 with home banking facilities using a television and phone line. Included is the remote control, modem, phone cord and line splitter.
As well as a picture...

...however mine is different. It's an engineering sample.

Can anyone care to shed a bit mroe light on this? A lot of the information I have found so far ia rather vague other than one place (http://www.gamesniped.com/2008/08/12/amiga-cd32-with-modem-vancity-direct/) that mentions that they were widely used as kiosks in the Vancouver area.

In Vancouver you could get a service called VanCity Direct TV from VanCity Credit Union. You'd get an Amiga CD32 with the TVI (Taurus Ventures Inc.) modem to connect to their online banking service (Teleview) for a $7CDN/mo fee. This was an in-home service, there may have been a kiosk version I'm not aware of. At the same time they had a PC-based online banking service as well.

The TVI modem was a standard Hayes-compatible 2400 baud unit. The launch customer for it was VanCity, so your engineering unit may be one provided to them by Taurus pre-launch.

Hmm. Thanks. That just means then that it's a niche item.
Still, I'm wondering how I can fix that broken hinge.

The good news is that it's a general purpose modem supported by multiplayer mode in some games. :)

On the broken hinge, do you want functional or pretty? If functional is good enough, you might check out this:

There's not really enough left for me to make it look pretty again and I'm fine if it looks a little ugly.
