Today i found some time to explore my IBM-AT 5170.

I found a ISA-memory-card in there. Total Hardware 99 says it's a Intel Above Memory 286 card. Does anyone have the Setup-Software and/or the documentation for this memory-card?

3876

Is it only a LIM-Board or can i configure it as extended memory?

If no one else steps up, I've got the AB286 floppy somewhere here...

According to the readme (http://downloadmirror.intel.com/1241/ENG/readme.txt), it can be configured for Expanded or Extended.

And, they even have the original software still available! Link (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Embedded+Components+and+Flash+Memory&ProductLine=Above+Board+Memory+Boards&ProductProduct=Above+Board+Memory+Boards&ProdId=158&LineId=158&FamilyId=44).

Gawd...extended memory...expanded memory. It brings back BAD memories from those MS-DOS 3.3 days when you needed a third party memory manager (Quarterdeck anyone) to manage anything above 640k . How those Mac folks used to poke fun at me! :)

Hehehe. Not quite, although I do love the baby macs in my collection.

We occasionally have lighthearted Mac vrs PC wars at home here. My wife is a graphic designer and she just loves her iMac. My machine is an XP laptop. :)

I am a confirmed switcher (Mac Pro 8-core 3GHz 16GB-ram 4TB-hd, MacBook Pro 17" HD) but I do have early IBM machines in my vintage collection. The last few days I have been restoring an IBM Personal Computer AT. It came with 512KB on the motherboard, which I am sadly remembering is just not enough after you load a few drivers. Advanced memory management is not available because it is 286 not 386+. For now I am using DOS but pan on switching to Concurrent DOS XM 6.0 as soon as my Above Board arrives and gets installed. The link to the driver at Intel is very much appreciated. I hadn't thought of looking there. I am happy to have discovered this forum, and look forward to contributing.

Hate to necropost this, but I've been reading the README.DOCs that are in various Above Board drivers and it appears to me that the Above Board 286 is NOT the same as the Above Board Plus or Above Board AT. Is there any way you could make the files on the AB286 floppy available? (If it wasn't obvious, I'd like to deploy an AB286 and would prefer to run the drivers it came with)
