Found this via Hack-A-Day this morning:

This would be useful in troubleshooting source-sensor optical pairs, such as those found in floppy drives. In all of the bad 8" drives I've had, the trouble was usually a failed source, and something like this would have saved a lot of time in trying to get a look at the source with an unfiltered camera!

Cute project (although a little vague about the polarities), but how does it save time over grabbing your camera or phone and actually 'seeing' the IR?

Some of the source-sensor pairs, especially the single-piece molded devices, are really hard to look into with a camera!
