Hey Guys,

I just won this and am a bit unsure as to what it is.
It looked cool, like a C4004 but it isn't one and I have no clue if I got a good deal or not.

It's a very early static memory chip. I'm pretty sure the Intel 1101 was the first SRAM chip (in the late 1960s) so this is a fairly early clone or second-source version.

Seems like an okay deal for 6 bucks if you're into chips.

Well, I'm not really interested in chips, but this looked like a C4004 so I thought why not. It looks cool anyway.

It's probably equivalent to the Intel 8101 static RAM chip (256 x 4 bits). The 8101 is the chip that was used on MITS' first Altair memory board that contained a whopping 1KByte, using 8 of those chips. At that time (~1975), RAM was so expensive that MITS only included 2 chips (256 Bytes) on the "1K" board. The remaining chips were optional at extra cost.

Your chip was made in 1972, and Intel probably started making the 8101 at about that time too.

I notice that the same guy is selling a 4004 that's currently at $207.
