It could also have applications beyond the Macintosh, the Apple IIgs and many Apple II disk cards use the same floppy controller and drives.

Agreed, this could be pretty cool for us old Mac and Apple II users. There are already a few floppy "emulation" devices out there for A2, one emulating DISK II on a 1.44mb 3.5" PC floppy (http://www.bootzero.com/HDDD_A2_v1.2/HDDD_A2v1.2.html), as well as one in the works emulating a "smartport" hard drive (http://www.spvhd.org/) with a USB flash drive on the floppy/smartport. But there isn't much out there for Mac, this would fill a nice void for that market, but it would also be cool if it was Apple II compatible, even though the CFFA V3 (http://dreher.net/?s=projects/CFforAppleII&c=projects/CFforAppleII/main.php) will do pretty close to this for MOST A2's, something like this would also allow //c and IIc+ users the same capabilities.

Great project! Good to see modern storage options for vintage computers being designed.
