Has anyone here used Spinrite software on their older MFM or RLL drives? Is it any good?

Yes and yes. Use it, you won't be sorry. It takes a looooong time to run on older machines... so be prepared to wait. But it does what it says it will do. Steve Gibson knows his stuff.

One more yes. It does take hours to run, but it performs a very thorough inspection of your HDD and corrects many of the errors.
I've used it on some of my skewed hard drives and haven't been disappointed.

The real beauty of Spinrite is that it can do a non-destructive LLF. That means if you have a drive in service that is starting to fail you can reformat it and not lose the data. That alone makes it invaluable. It's great for blank drives, too, as DOS lives on!! mentioned it's really thouough and therefore has the ability to give new life to old drives. It can't perform magic but it sure comes close. :-)

IMO, it's something no vintage computer owner should be without.
