Hi everyone!, my name is Nicolas and I'm from Argentina. I have and old PC-XT with 1MB of RAM and a 16Kb CGA video card with an ST-238R Hard drive. I've been surfing the web for a long time but I haven't been able to find a program called Stacker which is used to compress old hard drives. Does anyone know where I can get it? or does anyone have it? bye!:D

I'm not sure how truly "vintage" you are trying to be, but didn't later versions of DOS have disk compression built in?

I don't recall what version that started in, but you might consider upgrading DOS instead of looking for a copy of Stacker.

BTW, I remember the program but never used it and don't have a copy.

Cheers!

DOS 6.0 and above had DoubleSpace (as I remember) program built-it.
Why do you need to compress the drive? 32 MB is enough to store some data and applicatios/games.
On my XT I had never filled more than half of 10 Meg drive ;).
And on another with 20 Meg drive is only half-filled.

Offtopic:
You don't have any issues with CGA card? I read that using memory above 640 Kb
makes problem with graphics adapter.

Disk compression is Not A Good Thing on a machine that's already old & slow. It just slows ya down even more.

Nope, the card works great... but I have 2 use the TV, because I don't have a CGA monitor to try it...

If your XT isn't IBM 5160, then it should support memory up to 1 Meg.
