What is Deskmate? Is that a word processing program for the model 4?

DeskMate is a GUI for the PC-compatible Tandy computers. They made two different versions, one that would only run on a Tandy, and another, generic version to run on any PC-compatible. There were also versions designed for non-PC computers, including the Model 2000, the CoCo, and yes, there's a program for the Model 4 by the same name, but it's not the same. The Model 4 DeskMate is a non-graphical integrated desktop toolkit, combining several different functions in one package.

strange. so youre saying that the model 4 Deskmate and the Tandy Deskmate are two completely different things, just they both have the same name by coincidence.

They incorporate the same "functionality". That is, basic word processor, database and spreadsheet. I think the file formats are compatible in the early versions. There is also a version for Xenix
