A UNIX PC showed up on everyone's favorite auction site recently. As I computer I've been looking for, I jumped when I saw it, but then I looked at the price. $300 + $100 for shipping. And someone has already even bid on it! It seems to be in good shape, and it's booted as far as a login prompt so the hard disk hasn't died (yet) but still $400 seems like flat out extortion to me. Correct me if I'm wrong but this seems like yet another example of someone using eBay and a older computer to steal money from anyone who will fork it over.
(If anyone has one, or knows someone who does, I'm looking for one of these. No way I'll pay $400 though.)

I think this needs to be moved to the Wanted section or at least Rants and Raves.

You're referring to a 7300 right?

Yeah a 7300 is what I'm referring to, and I'm sorry about putting this in the wrong place, if a mod could move it to the right place that would be great.

Also, another one just came up, and for a reasonable price. Maybe the world isn't so bad

Did you ever try contacting Cindy about hers?

I did, she had one and it seemed to work, but I haven't heard from her for several weeks.

I have a 7300 and a 3B1. Took them out and tested last night. It had been a while. I hope you have luck finding one.

Hello, I am the seller of the CPU you have talked about. I just wanted to let you know, the price was not pulled out of my rectum. The only previous sale information I was able to go on was this auction: 321105861398

That auction was also very different than mine since it was sold as parts, not working.

The other one that sold recently also has some issues, screen burn and a burning smell, as the owner put it.

Also I am not stealing anybodies money. I put a price on it I thought was fair by previous information, actually very fair as the one I own is working, and let the market determine the price. Stealing implies force and I force nobody to buy my items. I am not the government.

Now I understand the shipping is high, I even mentioned that in my auction description. I would like to lower this considerably. I would also like the CPU get to its new owner intact. I understand people have passion for their chosen hobbies and would hate to see the item damaged in any way.

For anyone reading this post I would ask for information on how to separate the monitor for shipping. I would rather pack it in two boxes than one large one. I would easily stay under the dimensional weight and increase the chances of it getting to its destination intact and undamaged. And that is my goal, if anybody could help out with that I would be very appreciative.

Thank you.

Congrats on the sale, how can anyone get mad at a fair capitalism price? You listed the item and the world bid on it. It's like getting mad at the rain.

That said, you don't need to remove the monitor, but if you must I guess you'll have to remove the chassis and then remove the monitor from within inside, right?

Well, I am not mad. I hope you didn't get that from my post. As a libertarian I do not like being called a thief. lol Thief implies force, and my philosophy is anti force. I just wanted to set the record straight.

As for the monitor, taking apart the chassis seems like to much of a problem. I will probably ship it as one unit, but I might take it to a professional packer and shipper.

Anyway, thank you for responding.

Check out Ebay auction 281100547915....$600+ with an hour left....the prices of these are shooting up. They are extremely cool though. I demoed my 3B1 at 2010 HOPE convention, theme: "The Hacker Crackdown based on the book by Bruce Sterling". I had the Phrack archives on my 3B1 (basically the more beefy 7300).
