I have an opportunity to trade one of these for an NES. It is almost new in package, hardly used and only comes with a BASIC cartridge.

So how worthwhile would this trade be? I've been reading up a bit on the 1200XL and it seems it wasn't too popular due to having nearly no expandability, and most older atari programs are not compatible. Would it be worth it? I can't seem to find any on ebay so I don't know what kind of price they go for, but NES's in similar condition with similar games and accessories are going for about $50.

I'll give you $50 for your almost new in package hardly used 1200XL.

I see. So it sounds like it is a pretty fair trade, but would not be something I would be making money on. That's fine with me, I find the 1200XL much more interesting than the NES.

The last 1200XL that was on eBay sold for $105.49:

Aside from unreleased prototypes like the 1450XLD, the 1200XL is the most valuable model in the Atari 8-bit lineup. Ones in mint condition sell for around $150, while even broken ones go for $50.

That's funny. I was watching that.
