Looking for info about the old Commodore Color PET prototypes I've found some recent work done by forum's member sgray and I must say that so far, he has achieved impressive results:

Hey, thanks for the plug! ;-) Ya, I'm working on the firmware now so it will be useful to others. Then I have some hardware fixes and then some additional features (border colour, transparent colour, then 80 columns!)

Do you think you might try to build it yourself or would you be interested in a pre-built solution?

If there's no SMD soldering I don't really care. A kit solution sounds good to me...
