View Full Version : Proper Density For 1541 Disk Drive Floppies?

December 30th, 2013, 05:25 PM

I am looking to buy floppies for a Commodore 1541 disk drive that I just purchased. The manual states that the proper floppies to use are SSSD. I had a Commodore almost 30 years ago and could swear that I was able to use ssdd diskettes. Will double density floppies work? If not, does anyone know of any vendors who sell single density floppies? I searched ebay and googled around, but generally found double density floppies.

Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Double density are just fine, probably even better than SD; just don't use HD diskettes.

Hi Mike! Thanks so much for the extremely fast reply! After 30 years I have forgotten much, but amazed at how much I do remember. Have a happy New Year!

SD or DD work. The 1540 only uses one side of the disk so you can get a knotcher and use both sides.
