View Full Version : Laplink real Transfer Speed ?

I am playing with an old version of Laplink.
I remember Laplink was able to transfer data up to 58KBytes/s, using the, included, 4bit data parallel cable.
I had not used Laplink since 1992 and today I have been checking it again between two of my old PCs (one is a 486/33 and the other one is a 386/20).
Well, the fact is I am not able to transfer data beyond 16KBytes/s. Which is not bad but it is not the speed I remember.
I am using a 'compatible Laplink' cable. It is not the genuine blue cable sold by Laplink.(it does not have the two paralle/serial connectors, just the parallels).

Does anyone recall which was the real/expected transfer speed of Laplink between two DOS machines ?

The actual cable construction *can* affect the transfer speed. If you have another cable, try it.
