I know that it's just about impossible to get support for selectrics but what about the older units? I picked up what seems to be a model A with the extra wide carriage but it obviously needs a number of adjustments made (carriage is crooked by several mm and doesn't fully return and some keys don't even travel far enough to strike the ribbon, much less the paper).

You might want to ask on the Golf Ball Typewriter shop Yahoo! list. I suspect some old-timers there might know. I believe that the Model B and the Selectric co-existed during the same period, so it's not unlikely. I had a prop-spacing Executive in my office that I absolutely cherished while the division secretary had a Selectric II. My stuff looked fantastic compared to the division GM's.

Actually there is good support for Selectrics on the Yahoo lists. Some things are hard to find, but help is out there.

There are also a list for all typewriters but no idea how active. Only 27 members...

Yes, I suggested that (see my reply above--but the OP asked about a Model A (or perhaps B), which, other than having a keyboard and a platen, has little in common with the Selectric:

Hi Chuck,

As I read it you said the list existed, not that it gave good support! Slightly different nuance of meaning!

.. so the typewriter group also exists, but it doesn't feel like you would get such good support, but I didn't join as I don't have a model "A"....

Hi Dave,

I'm a member of the GBTS on Yahoo! The posting frequency is very low, so I can't make any claims for the quality of the support, but there are some old-timers there who *might* know if you can get their attention. One of these days I'll get around to replacing the drive belt on that Selectric III that's been lurking in a closet...
