I was playing around with one of these, and decided to look it up given I had not heard much about Auto Race (Mattel Football gets more attention)...I found out that this is Mattel Electronics' first game, from 1976. 512 bytes of program storage. My kids did not find this too much fun, but I remember as a kid thinking these were a big deal, everyone wanted one of these new handheld games for Christmas in the late 70's.

512K program storage.

Obviously ~512 byte program storage, not 512K program storage.

I remember when those first came out and other kids would bring them to school, plus the Coleco Electronic Quarterback football game too.

I remember my friend had that one. Above is Coleco's Head to Head Football which I think came out after the Electronic Quarterback.

The only ones I remember being popular with kids at school were these:

I don't remember the basketball game being as popular as the football games, and I don't really remember the Head to Head version being around at all. Then after the initial few games of these types came out the novelty wore off pretty quick and they all seemed to lose their popularity. I was around junior high age when these first came out.
