We have a Dektak thickness monitor, itself an antique, and we use the alphacom 42 thermal printer, have been for about 2 decades. But it went to thermal printer heaven today:) So, does anyone have a clue as to where I could get one of these beasts? It uses a 7 bit data path instead of 8 bit and it apparently is a major job to convert to 8 bit for more modern printers.

Any help replacing this printer? Thanks in advance. BTW, its father was the Alphacom 32 which was used on a Sinclair and the Commodore 64 among others, if that helps.
