The "clonk woooosh, ..." bulk data system for IBM 360 in the 60s/70s.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_2321_Data_Cell.

Does anyone out there have any of the actual data cells, in any condition within limits?

I collect computer media from the year dot to the 80s and one of these came up on eBay some time ago but I missed it.

Many thanks, fellow retro-geeks.

We have three or four in the museum but I guess you are on the other (western) side of the pond.

Many thanks for your response.

I assume that because you represent a museum, none of these are available for swap/sale/gift...

And, yes, I am in England. But I will be driving around the USA in September/October.

Only the latter is out of court.

Talk to me! I am a computer historian and collector and I specialise in computer media "through the ages" so I think this weird medium should adorn my collection.

But, as we say in England, "I am not made of money"...

Btw, what kind of swap would you consider?

Onward to victory,

Are you still considering? I am interested in a deal on a 2321.

I PM'd you

I read your message - thanks you - and I would PM you back if it was obvious how to do it. I do want to continue this conversation in private.
Can you give me instructions?

I am still looking for something to exchange for the 2321 cartridge.

Would you be interested in this item in exchange for one Data Cell 2321 cartridge?

Sorry but we have lots of them and plenty of spares. We actually use them in the museum.

Worth a try.

Quest goes on... I am going to the USA for two months soon and will keep a lookout for suitable items.

Thanks,

peter

Keep in mind that an IBM 2321 data Cell might be a problem as cabin luggage with some flight companies... XD

Seriously - if you got the time then try to check out an ACP swapmeet and bring some material for trading. Not gonna claim that many people will bring an IBM 2321 with them, but you get to know enough crazy people that can tell you where to get one :3
