My vintage 1992 TI TravelMate turns on and says "missing operating system." Previously I was able to get into the BIOS (V2.04), but not now.
I need to find out what if anything is salvageable on the hard drive.
Long ago I used this computer to work in archives and it has a storied past.
Suggestions most welcome.

Welcome to these forums.

Please elaborate. For example, it has been such a long time, that you have forgotten how to. For example, you know how to, but you see an error message when you try.

This could be related to the first symptom.

Your "Long ago" suggests to me that long ago was when the computer was last powered up.

Could it be that the CMOS/SETUP backup battery is now too low.

Have you tried booting from a floppy? If not, try it and see if you can read the hard drive.
