Hi.
I am interested in using Ultrix. Is there any way of emulating any version of this? I would rather not revert to buying a tape disk. The only way to do so now requires

a real VAX capable of running ULTRIX

any info on ultrix would be great. I have not used it for 14 years.

thanks

Hi there,

You can run ULTRIX for VAX on the SIMH emulator.

You'll need SIMH first. Personally, I would really recommend building SIMH from source, which is located here: https://github.com/simh/simh

Next, you'll need to download a CD-ROM image of ULTRIX. Check out this repo, there are CD-ROM images for 4.2, 4.3, and 4.5. http://www.loomcom.com/retrocomputing/ultrix/

Finally, you'll need to do some hacking to get the CD-ROM to install. Instructions are here: http://www.xanthos.se/~joachim/Ultrix-from-CD-on-SIMH.html

Hope that helps!
