Does anyone have 8 inch disks that were used to boot a Vector Graphic machine using the Vector Graphic 8 inch (Qume) floppy controller? If not, a disk image file, or any disk or archive that contains any one of these files: MOVCPM/A.COM, MOVCPM/B.COM, or MOVCPM/D.COM?

Before I write a CP/M BIOS to support this controller, I'd really like to find and archive the original versions if possible.

Hi Mike,

Have you checked the www.vector-archive.org website? The 'CPT & CWVG disk images' file appears to contain software that will write disk images in CPT format from DOS to a CP/M system. There is also a vgdisks.zip file that contains files in CPT format that may create a disk that will contain the files you want.

Hope this helps,
Phillip

Phillip,

Thanks for your input! Unfortunately, all the disk images archived there are 5.25" Micropolis (330K) and Tandon (660K) images. I've yet to find an archived image of one of the 8" VG floppies.

Fortunately, I had one response from a hobbyist on the VG mailing list who has one original 8" CP/M disk from VG for this controller. He is sending it to me this week. Hopefully the disk is still readable and I can get it archived.

For anyone who may find this thread in the future, I have made some good progress in getting the Vector Graphic 8" floppy controller up and running. First, to make sure the board and drives worked, I wrote a BIOS for CP/M 2.2 to support SSSD disks. This can be found at http://deramp.com/downloads/index.php?dir=vector_graphic%2Fsoftware%2Fdisk_ima ges%2F8+inch+contoller%2FCustom+CPM22%2F

Next, a single hobbyist responded to my requests for original media and sent me an original Vector Graphic CP/M 2.2 disk for their 8" controller. I wrote disk image transfer utilities (FLOP2PC and PC2FLOP) to archive the disk to a PC and to allow creation of a new disk on the target machine from a disk image saved on a PC. The original Vector Graphic version of CP/M is archived at http://deramp.com/downloads/index.php?dir=vector_graphic%2Fsoftware%2Fdisk_ima ges%2F8+inch+contoller%2F

The disk image utilities (to recreate an original, bootable floppy, for example) are at http://deramp.com/downloads/index.php?dir=vector_graphic%2Fsoftware%2Fdisk_ima ge_transfer%2F8+inch+controller%2F
