View Full Version : Trouble pairing a Casper CGA/EGA monitor with an Orchid VGA/EGA card

Does anyone have the jumper settings or diagram for the Orchid Designer 800 VGA card? It's an 8-bit ISA VGA/EGA combo card based off of the Tseng Labs ET3000 chipset. I cannot find the documentation on this card, though I did find more information 2-3 years ago. The closest of kin to this card is regular Orchid Designer VGA (http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/graphics-cards/M-O/ORCHID-TECHNOLOGY-Monochrome-CGA-EGA-VGA-DESIGNER.html). Similar board layout, but there's an extra jumper and the dip switch settings seem to react differently. However, I am getting some kind of unsynced signal on...

...A very ancient and poorly-documented monitor called the Casper HD-55. It looks to be a CGA monitor, but the only info I can find on it is the usual PC Mag ads and subsequent scrapings from e-recycler listings: PC Mag Oct 1986 Casper ad (https://books.google.com/books?id=MK_-L8Mr1u4C&pg=PA237&lpg=PA237&dq=casper+hd-55&source=bl&ots=W7-Quzx_ML&sig=TP3Z66K0GJ75fEYLWg3BCKERwAY&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi7n8GmkYjMAhXIOCYKHSgzD6sQ6AEIIzAC#v=on epage&q&f=true)

I am getting a badly-synced, horizontally-scrolling, double-field looking signal when I pair these two, and it's unusable. I'm sure it's a signal setting or maybe these two cards are incompatible. I like this monitor because it has many knob controls, including a switch in the back to go between faux color-mode Green phosphor, full-Color, and amber phosphor. Pretty cool if I am in the mood for monochrome.

I figured this was the best place to ask for info because there might be someone who have used or own these. It is, after all, pertinent to the era of this forum group. :)
