I just acquired a SX-64 off Ebay. This is my first Commodore computer since I bought a C-64 new in 1984 with my paper route money (that took a long time to save up!) I figured I wanted another C-64 (for nostalgia of course!) so why not go with a little style! It powers up to the prompt, the drive continues to spin, and the drive light stays on. I even took the ROM out of the FDD controller and it did the same thing. I also swapped out the 6502 with one from an old Apple II+ (probably not a good idea). Anyone got suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Is it a dc motor direct drive floppy? I keep digging out rubber bands to rebuild the belts that have turned into black gunk.

The drive mechanism seems to work fine, it appears the logic to control the drive is faulty. I don't know whether it is maybe a logic chip or the ROM. I had the ROM chip removed and powered the computer up, and it did the same thing. Leading me to believe the ROM and the CPU for the FDD controller are ok.
