I want to low level format an ST-225. I've the thread Low Level Format and https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.sys.ibm.pc/WnXiswcgBW4

I understand cylinders and heads but not the other paramaters.

I typed -g=c800:5 in debug and got a reference to an xt controller. It detected the c: drive and asked for the 6 parameters. that's as far as I got.

What 6 parameters is it asking for?

Have to check that tomorrow. It's nearly midnight here so I'm off to bed now.

Ah yes, RTFM, never thought of that. Interesting note, I'm using EDGE in Windows 10 as my main browser. The ftp link wouldn't open, had to use Internet Explorer 11.

Thanks for that. PC in the attic. Can't go up there now because the squeky boards will wake up my wife and our Chinese student.

Entered to Parameters. Seems to finish what ever it does. Using IBM 3.30 I used fdisk successfully. However it won't DOS format.

Have to check that.

How long should a surface scan using IBM Diagnostics 2.02 take on an ST-225?

I used those parameters and had no problems with my ST-225 : http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2016/05/working-with-st-506-interface-mfm-hard.html

OK, I'm a bit of a dipstick. I had the dip switches set for four floppies

Trying again to get it running.

I'm getting a 131 error on boot up.

EDIT: The ST-225 is formatting now.

EDIT 2: I unplugged and plugged P8 andP9, error 131 is gone now.
