View Full Version : Replacing BIOS Chip

I have a 386SX board that the BIOS chips legs broke off when I was trying to reseat it. The BiOS chip is an AMI 386 SX BIOS. I have another BIOS chip from a different computer that is also an AMI 386SX BIOS. Can I swap it in or is there more to it than that? Don't know what kind of damage I could do just putting it in as a test.

There's more to it than that.

However, you could get lucky.

It won't do any damage -- it just won't do what it's supposed to -- unless, of course, you happen to get very lucky. :-)

What Stone is implying is that there's the matter of the chipset and any associated peripherals.
