Hi,
I am currently repairing my Newbury Data 9500 VDT.

Nothing special, just those old bad contacts in the cable that are now fully cut...
So I have a new cable (coiled 4-wire), I have crimpled a new RJ-12 plug one one side...now I am stuck with the other side.
I have this connector on the old cable :

(yes, it is a 5-pin connector with only four wires in it, and a "lonely" pad on the soldered side)
And...I couldn't find the same. I couldn't find it in TE, Molex or Würth catalogs. I couldn't reuse the old crimps either, they are so thin, I couln't insert a needle, cutter blade or anything to pry them open.

So I tried to find something that could do the job and bought a set of HE13 and WR-WTB connectors...but neither do fit : they are deeper (along the direction of the cable) and the connector on the board is too close to the edge of the keyboard for either of them to fit.
So I'm back to square one with this question : can you identify this 5-pin, 0.1 inch-spaced connector so I have a chance to find some new crimps for it ? Dimensions are 15x8x5mm.
The other plan still holds : an alternate board/wire set of small enough connectors could cut it. Given the small number of pins, maybe a 2.5mm instead of 0.1 inch spacing could do. Do you know of any one ?

Thanks !

Worst-case scenario, cut and splice into the wires an inch or two from the connector, where the splice will be inside the keyboard unit. You'd be the only one to know it's there. Not a perfect solution, but it could get you running while you continue the search.

Well, I'd do a google image search on "wire to board connectors" and start pawing through the results. Many vendors have 3D and CAD drawings online.

It looks like some flavor of JST connector

That was might thought also, but I failed to find an exact match.

Try this one, you might have to 'shave' the top to get the key to line up... 2.54mm = 0.1"

You can buy a kit of the whole HXP series, which is 2.54 here:
https://www.amazon.com/Hilitchi-JST-XHP-housing-Connector-Adapter/dp/B015Y6JOUG

Even if it doesn't fit, it comes with the male and female, so you could replace the board end too.

Or, you can buy the HX series individually which is 2.5 (and might just fit) here:

Hard to tell size from the picture, but by any chance would 4 single-pin 'Dupont'-type connectors do the job (or even just the female inserts with a bit of heat-shrink)?

Thanks for all the suggestions ! There is really quite a variety of wire-to-board connectors...the JST HX may be small enough to do the job.

Wow...I knew it had been a long time...wouldn't have bet on one year though. That's what they call procrastination I guess. Finally did it!
I had to buy proper crimping pliers too (Engineer PA-09), the ones I had couln't crimp such small connectors. Takes some habit (and took much cursing) too, for each wire I used maybe four connectors before getting one right. I was definitely getting better at the last ones though!
Anyway, today I put a JST HX on the cable and its mate on the board, and at last my NDR 9500 has a perfectly working cable. Actually, the old one was already intermittently faulty when I got it in 2004! Better late than never.
Thanks again for the help!
