Can a Xebec and WDXT Gen Hard drive controller coexist on a 5150?

Probably not, unless you've got a BIOS that can access the WD controller at alternate I/O port addresses.

Duplicate DMA and IRQ would need to be considered too.

If the IBM 5150 has its original IBM 63W power supply, then two 'MFM' drives will probably overload the power supply.

An 'MFM' controller/drive together with an XT-IDE/drive may be possible. Click [here (http://minuszerodegrees.net/xtide/rev_1/XT-IDE%20Rev%201%20-%20MFM%20coexistence%20-%201.jpg)] to see that combination in an XT clone.

I have the full height drive connected to the Xebec in a 5161 and an st-225 connected in to the WDXT in the 5150.

That deals with the power issue, but ...

Resource conflict

Refer to the diagram at [here (http://minuszerodegrees.net/misc/resource_conflict.png)] for an understanding of resource conflict.

With an interconnected 5150 and 5161, their ISA buses are the same from a resource perspective.

So no matter where you put the Xebec card and WDXT-GEN card (together in one case, or in seperate cases), because they share common resources, there is a resource conflict.

I've managed to get the hard drive out of the 5161 and installed it in a different 5150. Llf at the moment.

Why fit both controllers? You can run both drives off a single card.

That was my (unasked) question, also.

Will the 10Mb drive on the xebec run on the wdxt card?

Right off the top of my head, I can't see why not--although you probably will need to LLF it before using. MFM drives, as a rule, do not interchange between controllers without reformatting.

Solved my problem. leaving the drive in the second 5150. Have put my EtherLink III in it and managed to network it in IBM DOS 3.30 using the mTCP utilities.
