Hi guys,
I have been given (a la Freecycle) a BBC Model B+ 128K, which although is in visually good condition, has a fault.
When I turn it on I get one long continuous low tone, instead of the low tone and high beep associated with normal startup.
Any ideas where I could look for the cause of the problem?
Paul.

Have you tried reseating the ROMs? I vaguely remember that it makes that tone when the bootup ROMs are either missing or in the wrong order.

Also check that the keyboard cable has a sound connection. As DongFeng said, it could be a loose ROM and your problem may be caused by a bad contact.

I had an issue with insufficient shielding on my BBC Model B the other week (Nige knows the details through PM's) and it just played a long tone. Perhaps the power supply is also a possible source of fault?
Here is a document that was posted on the bbc-micro mailing list week. I don't know if it is of any use for you. There may be other sources as well.

Mm.. Freecycle.. free computers. Why does nothing like that exist over here?
