I don't want to open up a box o' stuff in the top of the closet, but I want to plug in my C128. Can I use my Amiga 500 power supply to power it up safely? It has the same connector type.

From what I understand: No. While they may physically may look the same, the pinout and power are much different:

____ ____
4 " 3
5
__1___2__

# C128 Amiga
1 +5VDC 2.5A Shield (ground)
2 N/C +5VDC
3 9VAC 1.0A Ground
4 Ground +12VDC
5 9VAC 1.0A -12VDC

Looks like pins 1-4 are pretty much neutralized (grounded). Pin #5 might cause some damage if you jacked-in the wrong PS, but probably not. (There's probably a diode or some kind of protection built into the circuit, but I wouldn't want to test the theory).

This could be an urban legend, but I head about a guy who tried the opposite (Powering up an A500 with a C128 PSU) and got a nice bootup-screen (white back with blue disk and hand), but nothing more. The power was enough for that, but not for the diskdrive...

Hell, I dunno!
