Found another interesting thing...

Kaypro, being the parts-bin-raiding company they were, also released some Kaypro II's with an 81-240 motherboard, which is what the Kaypro IV had...
So, if you're so lucky, drop in an 81-232 ROM, or a KayPLUS '83 ROM, and proper DS/DD drives, and you should be good to go.

On another note, finally finished the KayPLUS-84 upgrade on my K4/84, and it's really cool that it can read other formats. I tried Osborne 1 DS/DD and SS/SD (yep! Single Density) and got a directory just fine!

neat stuff, and this was 20+ years ago! I really wish i could drop that KayPLUS ROM into my K10/84. Hopefully I can find a K10 with an 81-188 ROM in it, which would mean it has the original HD interface board.

The search goes on....
