Well, I tried the PSU with just the Miniscribe connected and nothing else, and it still behaves the same way. However, I tested the 12V rail and it’s reading 11.7V, which is definitely too low....
Why opt for such a 'small' microcontroller..? Because it is harder and thus more challenging, perhaps. Or maybe it's what the OP had to hand.

Looks like the one I have now may have a defunct motor, so looking for one that at least has a good motor. Also looking for HX-20 ROM images, if anyone has dumped the stock ROMs. Thanks, Scott
I archive sealed vintage media and would love to have one of each type. But I guess shipping costs would kill it.
