Multibus & Amstrad PCW, what a pair

by Gary C on June 29th, 2020 at 02:27 AM
Fitted my Gotek into the case by cutting the original badge, as it had been cut out to allow the original drive to be mounted as drive B, it was already missing, but still seems a shame to cut original stuff.
On the plus side, with the OLED, the Gotek looks good and is useable.

Been collecting some multibus cards for a few years now. Have a 286 processor card and a memory card. recently obtained a card frame, linear PSU and have been looking for a suitable 'vintage' looking

iMac G3

by Gary C on June 17th, 2020 at 04:34 AM
Just picked up the iMac G3 I bought mid April (CV19 !) in the original Bondi blue, complete with the puck mouse and box

All seems to work (luckily the owner had reset the system and the password was set back to 'password') but the case and keyboard are filthy.

The keyboard needs really careful work. Removing four screws at the back allow the rear part of the case to be unclipped from the lower, however the front clips will not pop.

Amstrad ! arrgh

by Gary C on June 15th, 2020 at 07:31 AM
I have had this PCW 9512 sat in the workshop for almost a year now after picking it up in Telford (for the princely sum of 3.70) so I thought it was time it got an airing.

Powered up to a white screen, quick poke about to find this is normal.

Got to hand it to that Sugar bloke, he knows how to build down to a price. No ROMS !, system boots from a small amount of code built into the printer driver chip FFS.

Came with a disk, but this was very none operational

Quiet couple of weeks

by Gary C on June 2nd, 2020 at 06:58 AM
Been a quiet couple of weeks, Wife and I were off enjoying the sun and the garden.

Managed to get a few hours to work out how to increase the contrast on my VT420, a small adjustment to the +5V has brought it back, but not sure why.

But back to it today. Decided to put the original motherboard back into my Apple II europlus (replaced the failed board with a good one in the early days). The original had a failed CPU and a failed memory chip and I wanted to have the

Good end to a great week

by Gary C on May 7th, 2020 at 06:09 AM
After rectifying my Einstein and sorting the sound out on my Amiga, I then decided to look at three other acquisitions. Two I have had for several months (a ZX81 and a VAX 4000 model 96) and one new one (A VAX 4000 VLC)

Firstup was the VLC. Powered up, system password changed and its working great. Not much more to say on that, other than its a great little machine. A VAX you can almost stick in your pocket. Buoyed by this, next was the 4000/96. This one was obtained some time ago,
