It doesn’t have anything to do with the drivers, it has to do with the bios and the type of display it sees. Even if you could adjust it, it wouldn’t really do much in the way of making the screen...
You’re welcome! My Dell Inspiron 8000 series laptops, and my Dell Precision M50 have a native resolution of 1600 x 1200, and it looks amazing. 1400 x 1050 is really good too.
Yours probably has the 1400 x 1050 screen then, as that was an option for the E500, and I’ve never seen an LCD that can go above its native resolution.
Those controls are there for machines equipped with a passive-matrix display. They are essentially disabled on machines with active-matrix displays, as they aren’t really necessary. It was just...

I’m sorry to hear that! Glad you’re okay though! I’ve never been bit by one and hope I never do. Absolutely hate the damn things.
I also just realized that I wrote “byte” instead of “bite?” Why...
That’s the stuff nightmares are made of! The thought of finding a nest of even non-venomous spiders is a computer terrifies me, but brown recluses? That would be absolute Hell. I think I would’ve...
I think it’s fine personally. The buttons do have a fairly long travel before they “click,” but it doesn’t really bother me, and I’ve found that most early mice (my Microsoft gray-eyed mouse, for...
That's pretty badass. Always liked the IBM POS machines. Some of the stainless-steel-cased Panasonic ones are pretty neat too. I had a newer Fujitsu POS for a while, but I didn't end up keeping it,...
Hmm.... the listing seems to have vanished.
Anyway, I don't think I'd be "afraid" to use it if I had it and was going to keep it (which I wouldn't). It's just as likely to break sitting as it...
I think the *majority* of us active members on here have that goal. I think *most* of us are here because we like vintage computers, not because we like to make USB keyboards out of old switches. Is...
Who the hell are you to try and tell people what they do and don’t care about?
I absolutely care about what happens to these long-out-of-production keyboards.
I think lots of people here...
Very well said. Couldn’t agree more.
That's awesome! I'd love to stumble across one of those.
For me, It would be the Compaq SLT/286 and SLT 386s/20. They are very reliable, have a detachable keyboard, a very good LCD, a nice form-factor, and they made quite a lot of them, so as a result,...
Okay, I installed the GeForce2GO and it does indeed perform better than the M4 did. Very happy with this upgrade.
I have also bought an NOS UXGA panel that I will be installing in this machine....
I have went ahead and rebuilt the Inspiron 8000 that you see in the OP with a Windows ME/XP dual-boot. I had previously decided not to run XP on these, but it runs so good I have decided to revert...
I think it’s hilarious when people think just because they put a lot of time and money into something, and have sentiment towards it, that it’s worth a ton and everyone should just be beating the...
It is a non-rechargeable lithium cell. It's either a CR2032 or CR2025 from what I remeber.
Finally found this laptop! I had been really wanting one of these since I fisrt found out of its existence, a little over a year ago.
First, here's some pics:

If you can get past not having sound (on an MCA PS/2), they are amazing. The lack of sound doesn't bother me. The PC speaker sound on Wolfenstein 3-D is good enough for me. But, if you are the type...
Capacitors! There is an SMD capacitor on the inverter board that leaks and causes these issues. Clean the inverter, replace the cap, and I bet your backlight will return to normal.
The Conturas...
Absolutely!
The Inboard 386/PC is a wonderful accelerator. I’ve got one in one of my 5150s, and I will never part with it :)
Sweet! Glad it's working! Need to give SIMCGA a try at some point.
