I think Glitch might have what I need, I'll keep the thread updated. Just looking for a standard card, as long as it has serial and parallel that's good enough for me, at least on this project
  2. Wanted: ISA floppy/hard drive controller

Looking for a controller card for a 486 I'm building. It has to be 16 bit isa, no vlb, and preferably tested and working. It would also be a plus if the manual was included or available online

Aha! I got it! The screw holding the motherboard near the keylock jumper was shorting a trace! Works fine now! Aside from needing a new i/o controller card...

Looks like that very small amount of corrosion was causing issues. Just a bad connection on that chip. No other corrosion visible anywhere on the board. It now posts fine and checks the ram but still...

I didn't mention it because the battery had just barely started leaking. There was corrosion in the connections for the battery, a very small amount on 2 traces, and surface corrosion on 1 resistor....

I tested all affected traces and all seemed to be good. I just went over with a magnifying glass and found a little corrosion on one pin of the bios chip but cleaning it didn't change anything. I...

    56155

This is where it freezes, just replaced the ram and cache with known good replacements so it's not that.

All I did was desolder the old battery and solder a stock replacement in its place. I checked and the connections are good. After leaving it on and letting the battery charge, it now posts and...
  9. Replaced barrel battery and keyboard is locked

So I just replaced the barrel battery on a motherboard I'm using for a build and now when I turn it on, it says "keyboard is locked". I don't have a keylock switch connected and it didn't say...

Yeah, I know it's a long shot but I 've got 2 similar Viewsonic monitors in very similar cases, I'm sure they wouldn't redesign the base for such similar models. Wouldn't be very cost effective

    Wanted: Base for Viewsonic moniitor

Exactly as the title says, I picked up a Viewsonic 19" G90FB that doesn't have the base with it and I'd like to get one. I would assume the base from other models would work but not 100% sure.

Ok, I'll order a few of those. If it works out well I'll probably do the same on a couple other boards I have.

    Barrel Battery Replacement Options

I got a new 486 motherboard I'm planning on building into a full machine a few weeks ago. It had a barrel battery on it that I clipped because it was just starting to leak. Unfortunately this board...

The best I've personally used is my Panasonic Exec Partner. Very nice layout, very clear screen, and surprisingly upgradable for a "laptop". It doesn't really belong on a lap though, weighing about...

Double checked all the standoffs and all seem to be fine, all of them line up with the holes and no extras. If it was that, wouldn't the issue change because the boards are laid out differently?

I think the case is the problem somehow. 2 of the motherboards I tried worked perfectly fine outside the case. I'm going to say that case is possessed and throw it out as fast as possible

From what I can tell, this computer is just cursed. The only constant between everything I've tried was the case. All motherboards are ide only, I've tried every cable variation, different video...

I've tried an IBM, Gateway, and an eMachines motherboard with the same issue every time

I don't remember the exact models but I've tried 2 Maxtors, a Hitachi Deskstar, and a Seagate that all worked perfectly in other machines. All later drives from 10-80 gb

I've tried reversing the cable and I've tried cables with the little tab on top. Same thing happens.
  24. Hard drive not spinning up when IDE plugged in

I've never had this issue before and I'm stumped as to what's causing it. I've tried 3 motherboards, 2 power supplies, 3 hard drives, a few different ide cables and the problem stays the same. With...

Ah, ok. Not sure how I didn't find that before but it seems to be all set now. Just need some games that take advantage of it now
