Thanks Doug - that was exactly what I meant, that part of a program could be swapped out an in - I understand that it didn't matter as it was restored before use. I guess the short of it is that the...

It just seems like the CP/M 3 banking was designed to benefit the OS more than the application. Its goal was a maximum TPA, but we are talking about a number of K here when a better target might be...
  3. Why did Gary choose the banking method that he did?

I've read some about the CP/M 3 banking choice and I am wondering why he went the way he did on it - mostly because he took advantage of the banking for the OS, but I think his approach was not...

User bios is 0, I tried to set the ram disk to its smallest amount, 2K, and it went from 54.5K to 52.5K. The ram disk size definitely changes, stat shows it to be the correct size after chaning it...
  5. Epson PX-8 - confused about TPA discrepency

When it boots it calls itself a 63.5K CP/M and I have the internal RAM drive set to 0K.

When I look at address 6 and 7 they contain 00 DA which I take as 0xDA00 which is 55808 or 54.5K, not 63.5K....

My earliest memory of what I would call a laptop is the Toshiba T1100 I saw in PC magazine. The I think it was the Zenith SuperSport. Lately I've been playing with the Epson PX-8. My favorite, one...

    Hi Geoff,

It is pretty impressive how good floppy disk technology was - amazing that 3 decades later you can still get the data off of it!

    Thanks,

    Alan

That works fine! I ran it on the PX-8 and other than it using numbers for the drives (1-4) instead of the usual PX-8 notation which is drive letters (D:-G:), it works great. I formatted a virtual...

Can you post the FORMAT.COM for me to try? Is it an Epson version? There docs mention a FORMAT, but I wonder if it was merged into COPYDISK.

I should have been more specific, I don't mean an...

One more thing - I think there was an HX option or HX board mentioned in the TF-20 manual. Does your TF-20 have it? Could that be why it doesn't work with the HX?

    Hi Geoff!

I agree, the TF-20 loads its firmware from diskette instead of ROM which is why you need a 'system' disk. The PF-10/TF-15 have their firmware in ROM so they don't require a startup...
  16. Does anyone have the Epson PF-10 and this disk?

I am working on a disk emulator for the PX-8 that should daisy chain with the PF-10 and when it is ready, if someone has this disk and a PF-10 drive, I'd like to send them one to archive the official...

Sorry, Doug, I am mistaken, I was thinking 1A but write 1F.

Mostly using the results to know if a file is good or bad, the same or different.

Does CP/M 3 give an option to write a half record?

Ffile size - how do you treat file ends?

Different tools I use do different things. If I use yaze's W command to write a file out to the host, or use cpmtools cpmcp to copy a file, it maintains the size down to the byte by using the Bc...

Thanks Doug; I thought about that other method you are suggesting as well (just start again from the beginning and advance to the next spot), but that seems like a lot of I/O. I'm going to just have...

I played around with this more last night and figured out what I think the problem is. Some software uses a method in the programmers CP/M handbook that sometimes works and apparently sometimes...
  22. Can CP/M 2.2 PIP copy a sparse file properly ?

Is there an option to specify?

I made a test program that makes a file, then writes record 500 to it. This resulted in two directory entries, the first one has no blocks assigned to it. This is...

I'm just setting a frequency and duration - not actually trying to play back any sort of recorded pattern at a bit rate. I'm not sure even if I could produce it that a piezo would be able to...

I was somewhat trying a cheaper version of that Hugo - I don't want to add any additional parts that aren't necessary to the design, so in my case I've got a piezo and two microcontroller pins to...
