Nowadays cables are (supposed to be, looking at you, China..) solely made of TPE (thermoplastic elastomers) which contain no (volatile) plasticizers.
But the common material before was plasticized...

Are you referring to a Pentium with 5x86 or do you mean for instance a Cyrix M1?
That last one might have some specific issues, sometimes cache related (WB/wT), iirc.

If my memory doesn't make fun of me, I used to use the OS/2 (3 Warp) boot manager to boot different DOS versions.

That happens when you access the adobe download page with adblock or ghostery etc. installed. It blocks the part that gives you the choice to select with or without 'extras'.
