    Default authentical OS for IBM 9556-0BA

    Hello,

    since a view days I am a owner of an old IBM-PC Type-9556-0BA. I think it's a system 56-486SLC2. The PC is in a good condition with a small cobweb in the chassis .
    I want to install a authentical OS on this machine but I don't know what. Do you have any idea?

    Regards from Hamburg/Germany

    recommends the following OS:

    Operating System(s):

    * OS/2 Warp Version 3
    * Caldera OpenDOS 7.01
    * Linux 2.2 (Slackware-based)

    OpenDOS and Linux are out of the question because they are not authentic enough for this machine.

    Some details to the Hardware:

    8 MB RAM
    25/50MHz 486slc2

    works OS/2 Warp 3 on this PC or shoud I expand the memory to 16mb?

    The machine will always work better with more memory if you have it available. OS/2 Warp 3 will work fine on 8MB though so it's not necessary, just an improvement.

    Default IBM PS/2 Model 56 original operating system

    Your IBM PS/2 Model 56 SLC2 (machine type and model 9556-0BA) was preinstalled with IBM OS/2 2.00.1. This is according to the personal systems reference book on 1992 to 1995 IBM PS/2s (see http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ps2book.pdf). 9556-0BA is listed on the last page.

    I own the original OS/2 2.0 and 2.1 ( and much more ) but my 2.0 is shrink-wrapped and I don't want to open it. So I prefer the OS/2 2.1 Version. This Version is only 4 month younger as my IBM PS/2-System.

    I have several copies of OS/2 ver 2.11 in sealed bags ( I'm geussing they were OEM) in storage. I'll have to dig them out and test one soon.
