    Default Fire in the hole!

    I bought a 32 Mb Disk on Module for a Lo-tech XT-Ide in a 5150.

It wouldn't work in the 5150 so I put it on a Future Domain Controller in a 486. When I switched on, the power leads went up in smoke.

I bought it from China. It is a Transcend DOM.

I contacted the seller and he offered a replacement or a full refund. I took the refund.

It probably has a Transcend sticker on the outside. I know a lot of people have had success with KingWin or Trusty Dragon or Winking Fox or whatever name(s) you can purchase from China, but events like this are why I stick to major industrial suppliers.

I'm glad I was there when it happened. I shudder to think what might have happened if I wasn't.

It didn't short out the 5150 +5 supply? Curious...

Nothing...as in nothing, not even a display, beep? Well, a shorted module would account for that...

Wasn't one of those cheapo "Used" or "Seller Refurbished" jobbies was it ?
