I've just bought one of new machined metal versions from a chap over on the Heathkit group. Pretty much the same design and a great bit of kit. I've just punched a disk but have not yet tested it. H8 is still in bits

    Cheers,

Thank you for the explanation Dwight.....I got it now !
The sector holes on the plastic piece threw me off as I had assumed
one index hole on the upper disk rotating to the next position would
have been enough. But the upper disk and those peep holes are fixed
in place to help for accurate alignment of the index hole and letting
    the punch through.

I assume the two screws on the metal disk are holding a lower
plastic disk (flange shape) that protrudes through the metal disk...
Now Dwight....did you do the machining yourself, or you had it done by
    a machine shop?

    .
It was done in a shop. Another fellow had a friend with a shop. The screws hold the stainless metal plate to the turned plastic.
The two have are aligned by the pin sticking up radially aligned, at 90 degrees, with the index hole. What the picture doesn't show is that the top piece has a hole bored into it that fits the center piece of the bottom piece. This is the same way that a disk drive holds the floppy centered. It would have been better to have 2 alignment pins but this is the way the fellow with the shop did it.

It is like a cylindrical cavity that fits the bottom center cylindrical piece...?

I'm out of the 10 sector ( keeping one for myself ). I do have 16 sector punches left. One might post to SEBHC to see if any new 10 sector punches are left or someone wants to part with one.

Have a look at the Athana website - "Specialty Diskettes are also available: Hard Sector, ..."
