I knew it would come to this. You have to invest substantially in property now to get your hands on an old unit. I hope it's earlier then a Pentium D Stone.

Because any alternative to eBay is desirable.

If some regular member is selling vintage computing stuff and wants to throw in something not vintage while doing it in one place, it seems fair to allow that.

In general, most of the people here are intelligent enough that they don't need to have rules spelled out in minute detail. Unfortunately, Stone is pushing it.

Sometimes goal posts have to be moved at a moments notice. Someone tries something that nobody thought of before, or some interpretation changes and the only way to make it die it to change the rules. It happens, and happens more often when dealing with the sort of people who need every little rule spelled out.

Then I guess I can't sell my IBM PS/1 here. When I got it from the original owner a few years ago, it came with vintage circa-1993 porn and sexually explicit chat transcripts on the hard drive.

Needless to say, I gave it an extra-good cleaning.

We have the off-topic market place because we are community that centers around vintage machines, but most of us have other interests too, and the off topic sections help us express these interests in the appropriate manner. But as Mike said, these areas are a courtesy and nothing more. If we end up having to police them significantly, then we'll just axe them and be done with it.

Ah man, I never find anything that "interesting" on machines I get. Usually it's just tax returns and/or mail correspondence (all of which I delete immediately).

It's worse than that. You have to buy a house in New Jersey!

Well I wouldn't want to have to make that decision, given only 2 options, NJ or TX. Lots of better options imho.

Would it make sense to re-title this section as "Non-vintage Computer and Electronics Marketplace"?

It's either going to be closed outright or restricted to computer equipment that is not vintage yet. We've not made a decision yet.

Let's let the dust settle for a little bit.

There are other niche communities that allow selling of anything within reason much like our current rules state and it works well.

This is not post modern government. If you have a problem with one person, you don't have a rule problem. (Not trying to suggest there is or isn't a problem here, it's not really any of my business.)

It's very common for people to sell houses and estates in amateur radio circles. To keep rulemakers happy, someone usually includes a $200 transceiver with the sale. There are great benefits to doing this (as well as cars and other things).
