Thread: FD501 Capacitor

    Default FD501 Capacitor

    Hi All,

Just opened up an FD 501 controller for my CoCo and noticed an odd looking, what appears to be ceramic capacitor - see picture. This appears to have failed, though I thought these ceramic caps disintegrate rather than swell. Controller works.

Here is a Service Manual but not sure it for FD501. http://www.colorcomputerarchive.com/...28Tandy%29.pdf
I only ask Question if I don't know and I will reply to question if I know.

Thanks for the link Jmdlcar. That manual unfortunately is for the earlier controllers.

Not an expert but that looks like a failed cap. Like you I have not seen one like that.

I'd replace it. If there is no value on the downward facing side there might be one printed on the PCB?

Thanks JonB. Yes, there is printing but it is on the downward facing side. I'll pull it and check it. I can make out B 101 M but not the voltage rating.

I thought it was OK but I didn't want to say anything because I could have been wrong,
