I'm trying to fix the printer for my PC Convertible --- it's making grating noises and the head's not moving properly.

I've dismantled it and investigated, and it's the most complex printer mechanism I've ever seen, with a solenoid and complex planetary gears and cams and pawls and things, all apparently to allow it to use a single motor to move both the head and the paper feed...

There's also a very, very small plastic bit which had broken off, which was apparently holding a spring in place, which held a pawl against a cam etc etc. I enclose a photo.

I've glued it back on, but does anyone have a photo of a similar working printer mechanism which I can use for comparison to determine how it should have looked before the thingy broke off?

It all looks painfully fragile. I hate to think what the reliability was like.
