Thread: Vax 4000 705a

    Default Vax 4000 705a

Started working on one of these systems. So far it boots, but there are no drives attached yet so it has not OS to boot. I have a few external SCSI towers to attach and an external DSSI drive bay as well. The internal drives are disabled.

a partial listing, the show config command continued to output after this photo was taken, but with this image one can see the 705A processor is present with 512MB RAM. This I believe is the fastest of the 4000 pedestal VAXes

    available storage/device controllers installed

Next - Add a graphics card.

They are great VAXen - about 13 years ago I nearly bid on an eBay auction for a pair of 705's that had just come off contract. In the end I went down the solely desktop route, but they are class VAX and I wish you the best of luck.

I upgraded to the 4000-705a from a model 4000-200. I sold the 200 to make space. My rule is "something comes in, something else has to go out" of my inventory. Helps me keep the hobby under control.
