    Default Gateway 2000 Cmos Battery

I just picked up this old Gateway 2000 today, and overall it's in decent shape, and it works now that I swapped in a new power supply from a junked IBM 5170. As of right now, I have 2 problems- the cmos battery is dead, and it looks like it's one of those Dallas units. Is there any way to replace it or just hook up an external cmos battery? I didn't look too thoroughly at the board so I'm not sure if there's a provision for that... The other problem is that the screen is incredibly dim, even with the brightness and contrast all the way up. Are there any potentiometers inside that I can mess around with to try and get it brighter? It's a CrystalScan 1024, I'm just wondering so I don't have to take it all apart if it can't be easily fixed.

What year was that manufactured and can you take photos of the board itself as well?

I'll take a picture of the board soon. I didn't see any manufacture date inside the case but the manual is dated Nov 93

Here are a couple pictures, turns out it has a socketed Dallas realtime clock. Are there any places to get new ones? Or is there anyone that can do the mod for an external battery for me? I don't trust my soldering skills enough to do it...

Stupid RTC killed my Gateway 2000 (it was a later P90 variant so nothing super vintage)... that made me swear off PCs that use RTCs without having a separate CMOS battery.

You can buy replacements and/or modified DS1287s with a coin battery socket on eBay.

Do you have a link? I looked but I didn't see any with that mod. I'd prefer to get that over a normal replacement
