Thread: Avoiding breaking port covers on IIe

Default Avoiding breaking port covers on IIe

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to remove the port covers from the back of the Apple IIe without breaking them? Every time I've tried to take one out, it breaks.

Also, I've tried 3D printing replacement covers, and when I try to put them in, they break, too. What is the best material to print replacement covers in? (I used ABS.)

    Thanks!

Maybe a hair dryer to warm the plastic and make it less brittle?

On your printed ones, try cutting a slot between the tab that holds them in and the main plate. This will allow the spring over a longer distance. I don't think you could fix the original ones this way as you can't get to where the slot would be while installed.
